What can I say? It seems a lifetime passed since when the first notes by WHITESNAKE, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, KISS, IRON MAIDEN, SCORPIONS, JUDAS PRIEST, AC/DC, OZZY OSBOURNE or also RONNIE JAMES DIO did come out from the "vinyl" of the brand-new coloured LPs bought in the lil' shop behind the corner in Turin and did spread in the air of the little room, that was going to become the first embryo of the PUMPKIN MUSIC recording studio... Was soon established a "blood-link", such as this "encounter" was just simply destiny, this way, on that LP player, and, after, in the modern CD unit, did follow the flamming guitar's chords of big bands like W.A.S.P., or HEART, the good ol' GAMMA RAY, the eternal VAN HALEN, the mysterious DEMON, also ANTHRAX, or OVERKILL, mixed with absolutely no problem with classics such as PINK FLOYD, QUEEN, DIRE STRAITS, GENESIS, EAGLES, the early U2, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, TOTO, evergreen BEATLES, and the italian VASCO ROSSI, LIGABUE, STADIO, LITFIBA, the "cantantessa" CARMEN CONSOLI, L'AURA and also ROXETTE and EVANESCENCE. But on all these very various musical influences, always and only two names did take control: METALLICA & MEGADETH!!! Is not possible to describe in few lines what it means to let your body be passed thru by the energetic waves of their music coming out from the "rounds" of their albums... Neither is possible to easily tell about the feeling of playing on "those special" guitars discharging all the wrath, the tension and the energy accumulated in our souls, playing a series of breathless riffs cutting like razor's blades... "It makes you feel good", James probably would comment, "It's a reason to live", Dave would maybe answer; anyway you may think about it, it's really a unique experience! But let's go back to us... He starts to play in the now-far 1982, after being litterally shocked by the first IRON MAIDEN gig in Turin, in the 1981, as supporting act to the KISS world tour. The first band joined, named STEEL ANGELS, introduces itself as a tribute to the "New Wave Of British Metal" well known as Tallica's & Deth's first musical influence, in addition to an original liveset of self-composed songs, always, anyway, inspired by the great "Heavy Metal family" style. After the final breaking of this line-up, which has given birth to many others famous experiences in the underground-scene of Turin, he decides to create his own first project, called PUMPKIN. In the beginning, it's only a matter of composing original songs, in a little more "light" style, in english, trying desperately to reach the "success" in his own home-country, then, after, he "turns" with decision to a live-set made of definitely Heavy Metal covers, cos' yet since those times, the italian pubs owners didn't like too much to support "original ideas", preferring a surely quiter and economically safe money-making. Also this time, the cooperations with musicians well known in the years after in the underground scene of Turin are alot and after a lucky serie of "special guesting" and new experiences, here's the birth of the first basement of the PUMPKIN MUSIC, with the following, logical change of the band's name in ONYRIA, and a clubs tour in the northern Italy, that lasts for a pair of seasons, as a tribute project dedicated to WHITESNAKE. in the year after, also the line-up of the band and the live-set shown till then, they change completely: first of all, seeing the continous "not lucky" experiences with the previous drummers, this time is preferred the use of a drum-machine, as also it's decided to completely self-dedicate to a sort of tribute to the orignal motion picture soundtracks' history, with an encouraging success for the critic and the audience! All these things they lead to the signature of a contract with an important international management, and to the further reduction of the line-up to two only members: the project, now a duo, is transformed in a sort of guitar-bar, touring the hotels and ceremonies of half a world, leaving anyway, in the rebel heart of our friend, a real difficult "Metal-abstinence" crisis... LOLOL But here's coming the new occasion to turn on the old dusty amplifiers, to plug-in once again the beloved "more-razor's-blade-shape" guitars and to pull out one more time all the wrath that often this world creates in our souls... Despite any kind of "ups and downs", you have only to keep the will to stay on stage ALIVE!!! :-) |
